My name is Suzanne Van Schaik. I have taught 3rd and 4th grades for 26 years, in both the inner-city and the suburbs. I completed my undergraduate program at Miami University and completed the graduate program in Reading, Language Arts, and Literature at The Ohio State University. I am so excited to be here at ICPA to teach Math and Science to our 4th and 5th graders!
I am a native Ohioan. I have 2 sons and 2 daughters ranging in age from 13-23 and they keep me busy! As a family, we have a strong love of music and dedicate a lot of time to volunteering for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. We spend a lot of our summer traveling around the United States, feeding the members of the corps or helping out our own children’s marching bands.
My goal as an educator is to develop a love of learning in all students so that they become life-long learners. I work with the children to learn how to take ownership of their own learning, being able to identify strengths and areas in which more growth is needed. When they are able to do this, their learning increases dramatically! I desire for all children to become critical thinkers, questioners, and problem solvers as these are important life skills. I am excited to watch them grow academically and socially this school year!
